“El Sol Todavía Brilla'' is a video performance inspired by the works of Laura Aguilar showcasing a clash between two identities: Chicanismo and Queerness.
The two identities share many similarities in the way they showcase the pride in holding a title that has largely been frowned upon at varying points in history. Yet, holding both identities comes with a mountain of shame and confusion. Where are the identities forced to be separate and when are they allowed to intertwine? Both of my identities have been destined for death yet today they flourish because the sun still shines.
The video performance will premiere during the Phoenix Art Museum’s After Hours Event on March 1st, 2024 from 5:00 PM-9:00 PM.
